PORTERDALE — The Porterdale City Council approved the final site plans for the city’s new Waffle House at its called meeting Thursday night.

Joe Hoffman, Waffle house assistant vice president of real estate, described the new restaurant to the council during its work session before the meeting.

“The building will be more of a historic, urban looking building, similar to

Porterdale Mill and not a typical Waffle House that has the yellow fascia,” he said.

Hoffman said the restaurant’s dumpster will be enclosed and made of the same material used for the building.

He also said the company will use the same brick used on the Covington Bypass store for the new construction.

Hoffman described the landscaping that will be added to the project to enhance the appearance of the restaurant and preserve the character of the com- munity, including planting trees and shrubs to function as a screen on the Elm Street Alley.

The new restaurant will also have bike racks and pedestrian access.

Porterdale Mayor Arline Chapman said the Waffle House was complied with the wishes of the city in the building design and landscaping. She said she believes that the new restaurant will be finished by the end of summer.
