For di­a­betes ed­u­ca­tion and sup­port, Rockdale Med­i­cal Cen­ter of­fers monthly di­a­betes sup­port group meet­ings free of charge from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the fourth Tues­day of each month. The July 25 meet­ing will be in Class­room 2, in the East Tower at Rockdale Med­i­cal Cen­ter. Spe­cial guest speak­ers will be Lisa and Roger Camp­bell, par­tic­i­pants in the new Dis­cov­ery Life re­al­ity show. The New­ton County Health Cen­ter (NCHC) will be ob­serv­ing spe­cial hours to ac­com­mo­date the back-to-school needs of New­ton County stu­dents. Tues­day, Aug. 1

The Por­terdale Po­lice Depart­ment (PPD) will par­tic­i­pate in the 2017 Na­tional Night Out Pro­gram this year. PPD will host the event at BC Crow­ell Park on Main Street in Por­terdale be­tween 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The com­mu­nity is in­vited to come out and join PPD for an evening of fun, food and en­ter­tain­ment.

Get ready for the Youth Em­pow­er­ment So­ci­ety (Y.E.S.) Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Denny Dobbs Park, at 6244 High­way 212, in Cov­ing­ton. Meet in down­town Cov­ing­ton at 3 p.m. for the Com­mu­nity Bike Ride the first Sun­day of each month. Co-hosted by the New­ton Trails, Main Street Cov­ing­ton and the Cov­ing­ton/New­ton County Vis­i­tors Cen­ter, for more in­for­ma­tion visit http://www.new­ton­trails.org/com­mu­nity-bike-ride. The ride starts and fin­ishes at the Square. The first loop is a gen­tle, fam­ily-friendly 4.5 mile roll around his­toric down­town Cov­ing­ton. Then, if you’re up for a lit­tle more fun, take a ride out and back on the scenic East­side Trail.
