Covington to host cleanup day Aug. 26
Participants will gather for event at Trinity United Methodist Church
The City of Covington cares. Partnered with Trinity United Methodist Church (UMC), the city is hosting a community clean up event in the Covington Mill community Aug. 26.
“We had a very successful community clean up event last year as part of our Covington Cares initiative where we hauled away four tons of trash and debris. We are looking forward to spending some time getting to know the Covington Mill residents and help them with a cleanup day.” Covington City Manager Leigh Anne Knight said.
The cleanup will start at 8:30 a.m. at Trinity UMC. The plan is to be done by approximately noon.
Trinity UMC is planning to serve lunch to volunteers and the city will provide water, gloves and trash bags along with a dumpster and a claw truck to lift larger items.
Covington Public Relations Manager Trey Sanders said there will be no charge for people in the Covington Mill community to utilize the dumpster and truck.
If people have items in their back yards, they are encouraged to move them closer to the street prior to Aug. 26 so they can be disposed of.
“The primary beneficiaries of the cleanup days are of course the residents of the neighborhood being cleaned, but we appreciate help from residents in any neighborhood,” Sanders said. “It is a community event and a great opportunity for people to get outside, volunteer and meet their Covington neighbors. We all benefit from a cleaner Covington.”
