Ben­ton House of Cov­ing­ton is spon­sor­ing an Alzheimer’s and De­men­tia Sup­port Group. It will of­fer a sup­port­ive and ed­u­ca­tional gath­er­ing for fam­i­lies and friends whose lives have been im­pacted by Alzheimer’s dis­ease or de­men­tia. Staci Williams who has a Mas­ter’s De­gree in Geron­tol­ogy and Kristi Carter from Lon­gleaf Hospice, who has worked in Se­nior Health­care for many years will co­or­di­nate the group. The group will meet on the sec­ond Mon­day of each month at the Ben­ton House of Cov­ing­ton.

Satur­day, Sept. 2

Sen. Tonya An­der­son (D-Litho­nia) will host a cer­tifi­cate and lapel pin cer­e­mony to pub­licly rec­og­nize Viet­nam War veter­ans from Rock­dale, New­ton and the sur­round­ing coun­ties for their ser­vice and selfless ded­i­ca­tion to the United States. The cer­e­mony will take place at 2 p.m. at Cony­ers First United Methodist Church. Viet­nam veter­ans who are in­ter­ested in par­tic­i­pat­ing in the cer­e­mony may sub­mit their ap­pli­ca­tion to par­tic­i­pate in one of three ways. You may mail your DD Form 214 and NTA to the Ge­or­gia Depart­ment of Veter­ans Ser­vice (Cer­tifi­cates) at 2 MLK Jr. Drive SE, Atlanta, GA 30334. You also have the op­tion to email your NTA and DD Form 214 to bz­eringue@vs.state.ga.us or you may fax the NTA and DD Form 214 to 404-656-7006. The dead­line to sub­mit is Thurs­day, Aug. 31.

Sunday, Sept. 3

You’re in­vited to the an­nual home­com­ing ser­vice as Grace United Methodist Church, at 3145 Wash­ing­ton St., in Cov­ing­ton. Ser­vice be­gins at 10 a.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Quincy Brown. Im­me­di­ately fol­low­ing the ser­vice will be an old-fash­ioned din­ner served on the church grounds un­der the tents. The cel­e­bra­tion will cli­max at 4 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 3

Meet in down­town Cov­ing­ton at 3 p.m. for the Com­mu­nity Bike Ride the first Sunday of each month. Co-hosted by the New­ton Trails, Main Street Cov­ing­ton and the Cov­ing­ton/New­ton County Vis­i­tors Cen­ter, for more in­for­ma­tion visit http://www.new­ton­trails.org/com­mu­nity-bike-ride. The ride starts and fin­ishes at the Square. The first loop is a gen­tle, fam­ily-friendly 4.5 mile roll around his­toric down­town Cov­ing­ton. Then, if you’re up for a lit­tle more fun, take a ride out and back on the scenic East­side Trail.

Tues­day, Sept. 5

The City of Cov­ing­ton wants your in­put. A com­mu­nity meet­ing will take place in sup­port of the de­vel­op­ment of the city’s com­pre­hen­sive plan. At­ten­dees will be asked for their in­put on the city’s fu­ture. This is your op­por­tu­nity to help plan what Cov­ing­ton will look like for fu­ture gen­er­a­tions to en­joy. The meet­ing will be­gin at 2 p.m. at the Cov­ing­ton Mu­nic­i­pal Air­port con­fer­ence room, at 1400 High­way 142. Tues­day, Sept. 5-Sept. 6

Grace United Methodist Church will con­duct a re­vival with ser­vices each day at 6 pm. Tues­day’s speaker is the Rev. Matt Mur­phy, Wed­nes­day’s speaker is the Rev. Robert Ward and Thurs­day’s speaker is the Rev. Aubrey Thompson and the Pas­tor Rev. Ge­orge P. Lanier.
