Covington City Coun­cil can­di­dates an­swer ques­tions

With mu­nic­i­pal elec­tions around the corner and can­di­dates in the full cam­paign swing, The Covington News has pre­sented each can­di­date with the op­por­tu­nity to an­swer ques­tions in this pub­lic fo­rum.

Up first, the can­di­dates for the Covington City Coun­cil. With three coun­cil seats up for elec­tion, two com­pet­i­tive races have started to heat up in New­ton County’s county seat.

An­thony Hen­der­son and Jef­fery John­son qual­i­fied for the chance to un­seat Post 3 West Ward in­cum­bent Coun­cil­woman Ocie Franklin, who also qual­i­fied. Cur­rent Post 2 East Ward Coun­cil­man Chris Smith will have com­pe­ti­tion this fall from Susie Keck. In­cum­bent Hawnethia Williams qual­i­fied for re­elec­tion for the Post 2 West Ward race with­out com­pe­ti­tion.

After mul­ti­ple at­tempts to con­tact both Franklin and Williams, nei­ther re­sponded to the ques­tion­naire from The Covington News by press time.
