Septic Sense 101
Registration is open for a July 14 class on how to care for septic systems. The class is at Freeborn Lutheran Church, 2304 300th St. NW, north of Arlington, and runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Learn how your system works and how to extend its life and recognize problems. Boating course: The Everett Sail and Power Squadron offers a three-week “America’s Boating Course” on the fundamentals of safe boating from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, July 9-23. After a final test, students can qualify for the Washington State Boater Education card. Class will be held at Bayside Marine, 1111 Craftsman Way, Everett. Cost is $50, or $35 for Squadron

Arlington photo contest:
The Arlington Arts Council is having an America’s Best Communities-themed photo contest. The goal is to take a photo that captures the essence of what makes Arlington one of the best communities in the country. People can enter up to three photos each at facebook.com/ArlingtonArtsCouncil until Aug. 25. There are cash prizes for first, second, third and three fourth-place winners. The winning photos also are expected to be displayed at Art in the Park in September.
