Boat­ing course: The Everett Sail and Power Squadron of­fers a three-week “Amer­ica’s Boat­ing Course” on the fun­da­men­tals of safe boat­ing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Satur­days, July 9-23. Af­ter a fi­nal test, stu­dents can qual­ify for the Wash­ing­ton State Boater Ed­u­ca­tion card. Class will be held at Bay­side Marine, 1111 Crafts­man Way, Everett. Ar­ling­ton photo con­test:

The Ar­ling­ton Arts Coun­cil is hav­ing an Amer­ica’s Best Com­mu­ni­ties-themed photo con­test. The goal is to take a photo that cap­tures the essence of what makes Ar­ling­ton one of the best com­mu­ni­ties in the coun­try. Peo­ple can en­ter up to three photos each at face­­ling­tonArt­sCoun­cil un­til Aug. 25. There are cash prizes for first, sec­ond, third and three fourth-place win­ners. The win­ning photos also are ex­pected to be dis­played at Art in the Park in Septem­ber.
