NYC fire­fighter falls sev­eral sto­ries, dies

NEW YORK — A New York City fire­fighter died Thurs­day af­ter fall­ing five sto­ries while bat­tling a fire in Queens, of­fi­cials said.

Wil­liam Tol­ley, 42, fell from the roof of an apart­ment build­ing dur­ing a fire that started in a sec­ond floor apart­ment just be­fore 2:30 p.m., ac­cord­ing to Fire Com­mis­sioner Daniel Ni­gro.

Tol­ley was rushed to a hospi­tal, where he died. Three other peo­ple suf­fered mi­nor in­juries be­fore the blaze was brought un­der con­trol in less than an hour.

Demo­cratic Mayor Bill de Bla­sio said the 14-year vet­eran from Lad­der 135 En­gine 286 in Ridge­wood leaves be­hind his wife, Marie, and a daugh­ter, Isabella, 8.
