Officers shoot and wound man holding gun and knife

The Dallas Morning News - - North Texas - Tom Steele

Three law enforcement officers opened fire on a man holding a gun and a knife Friday afternoon in Burleson.

Authorities were called to a home in the 800 block of Pecan Street, near Southeast Gardens Boulevard, around 3 p.m. after a shooting was reported.

The 911 caller — a man in his 20s who appeared to have shot himself in the mouth — came out of the house with the weapons, police said.

When the man refused to drop the weapons, two Burleson officers and a Johnson County constable shot him. It wasn’t clear how many times he was struck.

The man, whose name had not been released, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and was in serious to critical condition.

Texas Rangers were investigating, as is standard with shootings by officers.
