15-year-old shot in the head dies; charges up­graded

A 17-year-old has been charged with man­slaugh­ter in the death of a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head Tues­day in Gar­land,

po­lice said.

The charge against Andy Erives was up­graded from ag­gra­vated as­sault with a deadly weapon af­ter the vic­tim died Thurs­day, po­lice said.

Of­fi­cers were dis­patched about 7 p.m. to a home in the 3700 block of Burn­ing Tree Lane where the teen was found suf­fer­ing from a gun­shot wound.

He was taken to an area hos­pi­tal in crit­i­cal con­di­tion, but later died. His name was not re­leased.

De­tec­tives learned that the vic­tim was hang­ing out with the sus­pect and a 15-year-old wit­ness at the home when Erives pointed a gun at the vic­tim and shot him, po­lice said.

He fled but was found nearby in the 3600 block of O’Henry Drive, po­lice said.

Erives is be­ing held in the Gar­land De­ten­tion Cen­ter.
