15-year-old shot in the head dies; charges upgraded
A 17-year-old has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head Tuesday in Garland,
The charge against Andy Erives was upgraded from aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the victim died Thursday, police said.
Officers were dispatched about 7 p.m. to a home in the 3700 block of Burning Tree Lane where the teen was found suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, but later died. His name was not released.
Detectives learned that the victim was hanging out with the suspect and a 15-year-old witness at the home when Erives pointed a gun at the victim and shot him, police said.
He fled but was found nearby in the 3600 block of O’Henry Drive, police said.
Erives is being held in the Garland Detention Center.
