Paul Johnson intends to run for his third term as Denton County’s district attorney.

Johnson, a Republican who was first elected as the county’s top prosecutor in 2006, talks about his plan to run for re-election on his campaign website, pauljohnsonda.com. First Assistant District Attorney Jamie Beck, a spokeswoman for the office, did not respond to a request for comment.

Local defense attorney Brent Bowen also has announced his intention to run for the position as a Republican and would face Johnson in the March primary. Bowen has previously served as assistant county attorney in the Johnson County Attorney’s Office and assistant district attorney in the Denton County office.

The primary election will be March 6, with the winners of each party facing off in November 2018. The filing period starts Nov. 11.
