GOP not solely responsible

Re: “Dems should offer ideas, skip dishonesty in gun debate — Shouts of ‘we must do something’ get us nowhere, Jay Caruso says,” Viewpoints column, Oct. 6.

I appreciate Caruso pointing out the obvious, since no one else seems to do that. And those who think or say that the Republican Party is solely responsible for a lack of “gun control” (whatever that means) should remember that the Democratic Party controlled the White House, Senate and House of Representatives in 2009 and 2010, but did not enact significant gun control legislation during that time. I’m sure that the then-speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer, among others, have a great explanation for why that failure was not the fault of the Democratic Party, and I, for one, will look forward to hearing it. Bill Dubois, Dallas
