City announces MLK Jr. Day events

City of­fi­cials an­nounced a sched­ule for Denton’s an­nual Martin Luther King Jr. Day cel­e­bra­tion on Mon­day. This year’s theme is “Free­dom Comes From the Strength Within Us.”

A flag foot­ball tour­na­ment will be held at 11 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recre­ation Cen­ter, 1300 Wil­son St. At 3 p.m., a rally in honor of King be­gins out­side the Univer­sity Union on the Univer­sity of North Texas campus. At the rally’s con­clu­sion, par­tic­i­pants will march from the campus to­ward southeast Denton, meet­ing the com­mu­nity at Fred Moore Park at about 4:30 p.m. The march con­tin­ues into the MLK Jr. Rec Cen­ter where din­ner and a pro­gram be­gin at 5 p.m.
