City announces MLK Jr. Day events
City officials announced a schedule for Denton’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration on Monday. This year’s theme is “Freedom Comes From the Strength Within Us.”
A flag football tournament will be held at 11 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1300 Wilson St. At 3 p.m., a rally in honor of King begins outside the University Union on the University of North Texas campus. At the rally’s conclusion, participants will march from the campus toward southeast Denton, meeting the community at Fred Moore Park at about 4:30 p.m. The march continues into the MLK Jr. Rec Center where dinner and a program begin at 5 p.m.
