Chil­dren found safe af­ter car was stolen at gas sta­tion

Two chil­dren who were in a ve­hi­cle that was stolen at a gas sta­tion Fri­day night have been found safe, po­lice say.

Of­fi­cers were called to the gas sta­tion in the 5900 block of South R.L. Thorn­ton Free­way, near East Lau­re­land Road in southeast Oak Cliff, around 8:15 p.m. af­ter a child ab­duc­tion was re­ported.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, a woman told them she had been in the car with the chil­dren and got into an ar­gu­ment with a per­son who threat­ened her with a weapon, then as­saulted her, po­lice said.

The woman then left the ve­hi­cle and the per­son drove away with the chil­dren in­side.

The chil­dren, who are 2 years old and 7 months old, were found un­harmed in the car just be­fore 9 p.m. at a strip mall about a mile away on East Led­bet­ter Drive. Af­ter po­lice checked on their wel­fare, they were re­turned to the woman.

Po­lice were still look­ing for the per­son who stole the ve­hi­cle.
