The Dallas Morning News - - Metro & State - Tom Steele

A teacher at a Fort Worth elementary school has been suspended after reports that she hit a 4-year-old student several times, including twice with a thick book.

Star Pinyan told KXAS-TV (NBC5) that her son, Gage, was struck by the pre-kindergarten teacher at East Handley Elementary School.

“She smacked him with a book, poked his head, yanked him out of class,” Pinyan said. “She possibly kicked him one time. Popped him with a ruler in the back of the head and a book, like a really thick book, like, he said, a dictionary book, in the back of the head twice because he wasn’t listening.”

Fort Worth ISD spokesman Clint Bond told the television station that the teacher, whose name has not been released, was suspended with pay in December.

The teacher denied the charges to NBC5, saying that it was “one person’s word against another’s.”

No charges have been filed.
