Police say teacher’s laptop showed porn
An East Texas high-school teacher was arrested this week after authorities say his laptop displayed pornographic images during class.
Two students at Chapel Hill High School in Tyler went to a school resource officer March 1 and showed her videos taken during their English class. In the video, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit, William Perkins was teaching while sexually explicit images were visible on a laptop on his desk.
The officer seized the computer as evidence, noting that Perkins tried to take it away from her, according to the affidavit.
Smith County deputies searched the computer and found “a large amount of pornography,” the affidavit says, including images matching those captured in the students’ videos.
A deputy wrote in the affidavit that it appeared that the screen saver on Perkins’ laptop had been set up to display photos from the computer, which were pornographic.
Perkins, 65, faces one misdemeanor count of sale, distribution or display of harmful material to minors. He was booked into the Smith County jail Monday and released after posting $2,500 bond.
Chapel Hill ISD has not commented on Perkins’ arrest. He is no longer listed as an employee on the high school’s website.
