Holiday Perƒormances

Chorus of Westerly Presents

The Day - Sound & Country - - - By KARIN CROMPTON

A quaint town, Westerly, to many people, likely invokes the Currier & Ives imagery of a small-town Americana Christmas.

The holiday concerts staged by its chorus, however, bring to mind bigcity performances complete with seasoned professionals, an abundance of volunteers, and the welloiled machinery of an organization that knows how to put on a good show.

This year the Chorus ofWesterly will present its Christmas Pops concert on Dec. 20 and its Celebration of Twelfth Night on Jan. 8, 9 and 10.

The pops concert features about 190 members of the chorus accompanied by a 55-piece orchestra from the Boston Festival Orchestra. According to the chorus’ executive director, Ryan Saunders, the Pops is a combination of traditional and new holiday songs, mostly Christmas music.
