— JEAN DE SMET, ORGANIZER
said they would be interested in putting on a festival.
“It just evolved from there,” de Smet said. “It’s never stopped.”
In recent years, Third Thursday has sought to draw more people from around the state.
For instance, this year, organizers asked high school singers from Griswold to performon one of the stages.
But de Smet said the festival certainly has a pull with the locals.
“I know people who won’t go on vacation during a Third Thursday week,” she said.
The festival runs from 6-9 p.m. and parking is free. Purchase of a $5 button nets visitors discounts year-round at participating downtown merchants.
The entertainment lineup for June 21 features The Brazilian Project, Klezmenschen, the Long River Band, DJ Glidden, A Mirror’s Embrace, Mestizo Manta and FUSE. Food vendors will be offering French fries, onion rings, custom sausage and smoked products, rice pigeon peas, oven roasted pulled pork, pork tacos with salsa and onions, ground beef empanadas, gourmet kettle korn, Italian Ice, 10” pretzel twists, fresh squeezed lemonade, raw organic smoothies, pizza, grinders, lasagna, chicken tikka masala, mattar paneer, and vegetable samosa.
