Volunteers harvest chardonnay grapes Wednesday at Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington. Vineyard Manager Chris Moore says the rains this fall have been a challenge for the crop. Gains he saw in the crop during the hot summer have been offset by the heavy precipitation, “the most rain I’ve ever seen in September,” he added. He hoped to harvest more chardonnay and some pinot gris before today’s expected rain. He has been at the winery since 2006 and vineyard manager since 2010. This is the worst season he’s seen since the hurricane-soaked 2011 season.
