Psy­cho­an­a­lyst/author Hi­lary Ja­cobs Hen­del gives talk in NL

A sup­per with Hi­lary Ja­cobs Hen­del, author of “It’s Not Al­ways De­pres­sion,” will be held at 6 p.m. Fri­day at Zachs Hil­lel House, Con­necti­cut Col­lege, New London. This is a pro­gram of The Jewish Fed­er­a­tion of Eastern Con­necti­cut.

Ja­cobs Hen­del is a cer­ti­fied psy­cho­an­a­lyst and AEDP (ac­cel­er­ated ex­pe­ri­en­tial dy­namic psy­chother­apy) psy­chother­a­pist and su­per­vi­sor.

She con­sulted on the psy­cho­log­i­cal de­vel­op­ment of char­ac­ters on AMC’s “Mad Men.” She has pub­lished ar­ti­cles in The New York Times and pro­fes­sional jour­nals.

Her talk, which is sched­uled to be­gin around 6:45 p.m., will touch on such is­sues as what emo­tions re­ally are, what the dif­fer­ence is be­tween thoughts and emo­tions, why anx­i­ety and de­pres­sion are not nec­es­sar­ily a flaw in chem­istry, and how peo­ple can use emo­tions to en­hance well be­ing and to have bet­ter re­la­tion­ships. She’ll dis­cuss a new well­ness tool she has in­tro­duced to the pub­lic­called the Change Tri­an­gle.
