ONLINE FEEDBACK

-

Our Feb. 7 story about young women being illicitly recorded on smartphones while showering in mixed gender bathrooms at Connecticut College set off quite a debate on theday.com.

“So let me state a few things. You created co-ed, gender inclusive bathrooms and now there is possible voyeurism going on and you are confused why that is happening? You are letting 18, 19 and 20 year-old-kids use the same bathroom, what did the ivory tower wizards think would happen?!?!?” — Keith J. Robbins “Not often that this happens, but I agree totally with Keith.” — Thomas M. Moriarty

“I don’t know what to think when people say the genders must be separated because, of course, men will be perverts, they can’t help themselves. What does it say about ourselves when we simply accept the supposed fact that men are incapable of controlling themselves? I find that idea insulting to the male gender, and separating people is only going to reinforce the idea that it’s okay that men cannot control themselves. What that guy did is gross and reprehensible, but society should have better expectations of our young men.” — Emily Watford “Hey Emily, who said a male student was taking these pictures?” — Michael Main

“These co-ed bathrooms have been a fixture in most college dorms across the country for decades. The ‘transgender part’ has been added more recently, but in fact, males and females had been sharing dorms and bathrooms way before this more modern issue was recognized. I graduated from a Big Ten college in 1982 and we had co-ed dorms then. The ease of digital photography and social media is the newer dimension today.” — Ellen Maloney

“Things are clearly getting out of control … I don’t condone what was done by any means but would it happen if we left the men in the men’s room and the ladies in the ladies room?” — Mark Coen
