Executive actions on gun control
President Barack Obama will announce a package of 10 provisions Tuesday aimed at reducing gun violence, including: • Anyone who is in the business of selling guns must obtain a license, regardless of whether they sell firearms online or at gun shows, and must conduct background checks on their customers. • The FBI will hire 230 more examiners to process background checks. Also, the U.S. Digital Service will modernize its processing operations, and there is a proposal to add 200 Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents and investigators to bolster enforcement. • A $500 million investment to improve mental health care. • Firearms lost in transit between a manufacturer and seller must be reported to federal authorities. • Federal agencies will “explore potential ways” to promote technology that would prevent the accidental discharge or unauthorized use of a gun.
