Ex­ec­u­tive ac­tions on gun con­trol

Pres­i­dent Barack Obama will an­nounce a pack­age of 10 pro­vi­sions Tues­day aimed at re­duc­ing gun violence, in­clud­ing: • Any­one who is in the busi­ness of sell­ing guns must ob­tain a li­cense, re­gard­less of whether they sell firearms on­line or at gun shows, and must con­duct back­ground checks on their cus­tomers. • The FBI will hire 230 more ex­am­in­ers to process back­ground checks. Also, the U.S. Dig­i­tal Ser­vice will mod­ern­ize its pro­cess­ing oper­a­tions, and there is a pro­posal to add 200 Al­co­hol, Tobacco, Firearms and Ex­plo­sives agents and in­ves­ti­ga­tors to bol­ster en­force­ment. • A $500 mil­lion in­vest­ment to im­prove men­tal health care. • Firearms lost in tran­sit be­tween a man­u­fac­turer and seller must be re­ported to fed­eral au­thor­i­ties. • Fed­eral agen­cies will “ex­plore po­ten­tial ways” to pro­mote tech­nol­ogy that would pre­vent the ac­ci­den­tal dis­charge or unau­tho­rized use of a gun.
