Denver’s road sweep of Nebraska Omaha rates 100
omaha» Denver coach Jim Montgomery’s 100th career game was a success as the 17th-ranked Pioneers defeated No. 6 Nebraska Omaha 4-3 on Saturday night at Baxter Arena in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference game.
“This was a great team win for us here tonight,” Montgomery said in a team release. “Our upperclassmen showed tremendous leadership all weekend long, and our young players really stepped up for us in both games.”
The win capped a series sweep for the Pioneers (9-7-4, 5-4-1). They won 3-0 on Friday night. It was their first sweep on the road in nearly three years.
Tanner Jaillet made 25 saves Saturday, following up on his 35-save shutout Friday against Omaha (145-1, 4-5-1).
Freshman forward Dylan Gambrell had the game-winning goal and added two assists.
Colorado College 5, St. Cloud
State 2 B st. cloud, minn.» The Tigers stunned No. 4 St. Cloud State, behind 47 saves by goalie Jacob Nehama.
The Tigers (5-17-0, 3-9-0 NCHA) were outshot 49-22 in the game by SCSU (17-5-0, 9-3-0).
CC had goals by Sam Rothstein, Tanner Ockey, Teemu Kivihalme, Hunter Fejes and Ben Israel.
Air Force 5, AIC 1 B air force academy» Erik Baskin scored two goals and added an assist as the Falcons (9-9-2, 7-5-2 Atlantic Hockey Conference) cruised to the win over American International College.
Air Force outshot AIC (5-16-1, 511-1) 42-14 in gaining its first season sweep of the season. Jordan Himley and Ben Kucera added the other goals, with Kucera also getting two assists.
