Man gets 48 years in 2014 killing
An El Paso County man was sentenced Friday to 48 years in prison for his role in a 2014 killing south of Colorado Springs, prosecutors say.
Michael “Popeye” Malory, 60, was found guilty of second- degreemurder in October after he was acquitted by a jury in May of the more serious allegation of first- degree murder, court records show.
Daniel Baird, 37, was killed in May 2014, and his bodywas found in Malory’s Security- Widefield home.
The Gazette reports Malory is one of three men accused in Baird’s slaying.
Brian Springsted was convicted of first- degree murder in the case, andNathan Varnadore pleaded Malory guilty to an accessory
charge. Springsted is serving life in prison without parole.
