Man gets 48 years in 2014 killing

An El Paso County man was sen­tenced Fri­day to 48 years in prison for his role in a 2014 killing south of Colorado Springs, pros­e­cu­tors say.

Michael “Pop­eye” Malory, 60, was found guilty of se­cond- de­greemur­der in Oc­to­ber af­ter he was ac­quit­ted by a jury in May of the more se­ri­ous al­le­ga­tion of first- de­gree mur­der, court records show.

Daniel Baird, 37, was killed in May 2014, and his body­was found in Malory’s Se­cu­rity- Wide­field home.

The Gazette re­ports Malory is one of three men ac­cused in Baird’s slay­ing.

Brian Springsted was con­victed of first- de­gree mur­der in the case, andNathan Var­nadore pleaded Malory guilty to an ac­ces­sory

charge. Springsted is serv­ing life in prison with­out pa­role.
