LEAGUE MAKES EXEC HIRINGS
new york» Joe Lockhart, once a press secretary for former President Bill Clinton, will join the NFL as the league’s executive vice president of communications.
The league also announced Tuesday that Cynthia Hogan has been promoted to executive vice president of public policy and government affairs.
Lockhart joins the NFL from a Washington, D.C.-based communications and government affairs firm he co-founded. He was Clinton’s press secretary from 1998-2000, and also an adviser and press secretary to several presidential campaigns over two decades.
Hogan was hired by the NFL in 2014 after four years as deputy assistant counsel in the Obama administration.
Packers fire assistants
B green bay, wis.» The Packers fired running backs coach Sam Gash and tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot after a challenging season for the offense.
Gash was with the team for two seasons. Eddie Lacy ran for more than 1,100 yards in 2014 but gained just 758 this year on 187 carries. McCarthy said that Lacy did not have a good offseason last year and it carried over.
Schwartz to Eagles
B philadelphia» The Eagles hired former Lions coach Jim Schwartz to be their defensive coordinator.
Schwartz was the first assistant brought in by new head coach Doug Pederson.
The Steelers signed offensive lineman Chris Hubbard and fullback Roosevelt Nix to oneyear contract extensions.
