Conifer woman killed by police
A 25-year-old Conifer woman was fatally shot and a Golden man has been arrested after the man allegedly tried to ram a police officer in a stolen car during a high-speed chase in El Cajon, Calif., authorities say.
Kelsey Rose Hauser has been identified as the deceased person. A dog also died in the shooting at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in El Cajon.
A police officer shot Hauser, a passenger in a car that had been stolen months earlier in Denver, as the driver sped toward an officer who had just gotten out of his police car.
The driver, Geoffrey H. Sims, 34, of Golden, has been arrested for investigation of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and felony evading, according to a news release by the El Cajon Police Department.
Sims and Hauser were wanted on felony warrants in Colorado.
Two other passengers in the car, Todd Zigler, 36, and Brian Alan Blafield, 20, both of El Cajon, were arrested for investigation of narcotics possession, the news release says.
A red 2014 Toyota Yaris was stolen Aug. 11 in Denver, police say. El Cajon officers spotted the stolen car in the 1300 block of East Main Street at 1:25 a.m. Sims stopped the car. But when the police squad car pulled up behind, police say he sped away, starting the chase.
