WORSTS Hillman no help as Denver offense struggles to score

The Denver Post - - SPORTS - Nick Groke, The Denver Post

Ronnie Hillman ran for only 16 yards on 11 carries. But it was when he didn’t have the ball that he really hurt the Broncos. Hillman watched Peyton Manning’s lateral in the first quarter drop to the ground, not realizing it was a lateral. Patriots linebacker Jonathan Freeney recovered the ball, and New England scored its first touchdown Sunday just two plays later.

Plenty of punts. Denver had 161 total yards in the first half but was held to 83 yards in the second half. The parade of punts put a lot of pressure on Denver’s defense to rescue the team, and it did just that.

Safety injuries. T.J. Ward (ankle) and Darian Stewart (knee) left the game during the second half with injuries, forcing Josh Bush and Shiloh Keo into duty.
