At the same time, his ad­min­is­tra­tion is pre­par­ing to is­sue bonds that will raise $ 200 mil­lion for the first stage.

The mayor ap­pointed Kelly Leid, the ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of the city’s North Den­ver Cor­ner­stone Col­lab­o­ra­tive of­fice for nearly three years, to head the new Of­fice of the Na­tional Western Cen­ter.

He has spear­headed the $ 856 mil­lion pro­ject through sev­eral mile­stones, in­clud­ing win­ning city vot­ers’ ap­proval in Novem­ber for tourist tax ex­ten­sions that will pay for the largest por­tion.

Three hos­pi­tal­ized af­ter fire at mo­bile home.

Three peo­ple have been taken to a hos­pi­tal for in­juries suf­fered in a fire Tues­day at a mo­bile home in Adams County, said Sgt. JimMor­gen, a sher­iff’s spokesman.

At least one suf­fered smoke in­hala­tion, Mor­gen said.

The Adams County Fire District re­sponded to the fire at 12: 50 p. m. at a mo­bile home park in the 1600 block of East 78th Av­enue, east ofWash­ing­ton Street.

The cause of the blaze is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Po­lice seek sus­pect in fa­tal shoot­ing.

Den­ver po­lice are ask­ing for the pub­lic’s help in iden­ti­fy­ing those re­spon­si­ble for a shoot­ing that left a 29year- old man dead Satur­day night.

MetroDen­ver Crime Stop­pers are of­fer­ing up to a $ 2,000 re­ward for in­for­ma­tion in the case.

Var­nell Jenk­ins was pro­nounced dead at the scene of the shoot­ing, near the in­ter­sec­tion of Al­brook Drive and Peo­ria Street. The med­i­cal ex­am­iner’s of­fice said he died of mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds and that his man­ner of death was homi­cide.

Po­lice said the shoot­ing hap­pened af­ter an al­ter­ca­tion be­tween two groups broke out on the south end of a nearby shop­ping cen­ter and moved north to­ward an RTD park- n- Ride.

Nate Cur­rey, RTD spokesman, said Jenk­ins was shot about 20 feet from a bus around 5: 30 p. m. Jenk­ins, who was alone, tried to crawl back to­ward the bus af­ter he was shot.

Zoo mourns loss of orangutan. The Den­ver

Zoo is mourn­ing the death of its 48- year- old Su­ma­tran orangutan. Sally is re­mem­bered for lov­ing to comb her beard and paint on can­vas. The zoo says the me­dian life span of Su­ma­tran orang­utans in zoos is 28.2 years.

Sally was born in De­cem­ber 1967 at Cheyenne Moun­tain Zoo in Colorado Springs and was moved to Den­ver Zoo in­May 1996 from the Al­bu­querque Bi­o­log­i­cal Park, the zoo said.

Pedes­trian killed by car in park­ing lot B

lake­wood » A pedes­trian was killed Tues­day when a driver hit him in aWal­mart park­ing lot, po­lice said.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened at about 2: 05 p. m. at aWal­mart store at 440Wadsworth Blvd., ac­cord­ing to Lake­wood po­lice.

The driver of a four- door sedan hit the pedes­trian, a middle- aged man, then hit theWal­mart build­ing. Po­lice de­scribed the driver as an el­derly man. The vic­tim was taken to a hos­pi­tal, where he died.
