ORIOLES’ TILLMAN ON DISABLED LIST

- The Associated Press

WASHINGTON» The Baltimore Orioles, as expected, put pitcher Chris Tillman on the 15-day disabled list.

Tillman has been bothered by bursitis in his right shoulder. The Orioles made the move Wednesday and recalled righthander Mike Wright.

Tillman is on the DL retroactive to Aug. 21. He is 15-5 with a 3.76 ERA this season.

Wright was 3-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 11 starts for Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles said Ubaldo Jimenez would start Thursday against the Washington Nationals. The 32-year-old righty last started July 28.

Jimenez is 5-10 with a 6.94 ERA in 22 appearances this season. He’s 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA in four career starts at Nationals Park.

Street has surgery. Los Angeles Angels closer Huston Street underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his right knee.

The surgery puts an end to the least-impressive season of Street’s 12-year career. The three-time all-star was 3-2 with a career-low nine saves and a 6.45 ERA.

Street hasn’t pitched since July 31. He missed significant playing time earlier this season with an oblique muscle injury.

Niese on DL. The Mets put lefthanded pitcher Jonathan Niese on the 15-day DL and are leaning toward knee surgery.

Manager Terry Collins on Wednesday said the plan had not been finalized. Niese got only one out in his start Tuesday at St. Louis before being forced to leave the game.

Niese is 8-7 with a 5.50 ERA in 29 games, 20 of them starts. He began the season with Pittsburgh and rejoined the Mets earlier this month in a deal at the trade deadline.

Marlins get Francoeur. A person familiar with the deal says Miami has acquired outfielder Jeff Francoeur from Atlanta in a threeteam trade. The person spoke to The Associated Press under condition of anonymity because the trade hadn’t been announced.

The Texas Rangers also were part of the trade. Francoeur, who is hitting .249 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs in 99 games, was the only major leaguer involved.

New name. The Chicago White Sox ballpark, currently named U.S. Cellular Field, will become known as Guaranteed Rate Field starting in November. The team and the mortgage company announced a 13-year naming-rights deal.
