In a coup for the Denver Film Society, the director and co-star of the heavily buzzed-about film “La La Land” will attend the opening night of the Denver Film Festival, organizers announced Tuesday.

Emma Stone, who co-stars in the Los Angeles-set musical alongside heartthrob Ryan Gosling, will join Oscar-nominated director Damien Chazelle (“Whiplash”) in person for the 8 p.m. Nov. 2 red carpet screening at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. The opening night party takes place at 10 p.m. at the Festival Annex Building at the McNichols Building.

“To open the festival with the awards season frontrunner ‘La La Land’ and welcome director Damien Chazelle and actress Emma Stone to the stage at the Ellie certainly ranks as one of the biggest opening nights in Denver Film Festival’s rich 39-year history,” said Britta Erickson, festival director. “As an actress with such an impressive body of work, we are delighted to be able to celebrate Emma’s incredible talent — she is a star for the ages.”

Tickets to the opening-night film and party are $50 for Denver Film Society members and $60 for non-members. Tickets to see the film only are $35 (member) and $40 (non-member).
