Valor keeps Panthers down
The championship rematch wasn’t quite the slugfest many were expecting. After Valor Christian’s two firstquarter scores, the Panthers’ sideline and crowd went flat, and the anxiety was palpable as Pomona headed into halftime down three scores. The Eagles then ran the clock in the second half, and the game was out of reach by the time Dylan McCaffrey ran for a 9-yard score with 1:28 to play in the third.
• Broomfield had Pine Creek on the ropes early. A long punt by Luke Coffman was fumbled by the returner and Broomfield got the ball back. But the Eagles didn’t score. The loss didn’t change how their coach felt. “I love my Eagles,” coach Blair Hubbard said. “They’re a gritty group of guys.”
