The Pearl Harbor attack
The surprise strike on Pearl Harbor, 75 years ago on Dec. 7, was the worst day in the U.S. Navy's history. Japanese aircraft attacked Oahu, Hawaii, along with other U.S.-held targets in the Pacific region. The planes attacked in two waves, hitting 19 U.S. vessels, including eight battleships, three destroyers and three cruisers, leaving 2,402 Americans dead.
