MALONE NOT SUR­PRISED AT KIL­PATRICK’S RISE

brook­lyn, n.y.» Last sea­son, Nuggets coach Michael Malone scoured the D-League, keep­ing up on what­ever tal­ent was out there to be plucked. He kept com­ing back to one player in par­tic­u­lar: Sean Kil­patrick.

The Nuggets even­tu­ally signed him and kept him for two 10-day con­tracts be­fore let­ting him go. Brook­lyn picked him up, and this sea­son he’s blos­som­ing into one of the NBA’s best suc­cess sto­ries.

Kil­patrick, un­drafted in 2014 out of Cincin­nati, is now av­er­ag­ing over 16 points per game as a reg­u­lar ro­ta­tion player for the Nets. He scored 22 against the Nuggets on Wed­nes­day night in Brook­lyn’s win.

Most are sur­prised at Kil­patrick’s break­out sea­son. Malone said he isn’t.
