Canada currency honor

The Denver Post - - BUSINESS -

Canada will put a famed civil rights activist on the face of its $10 bill as it honors a Canadian woman on the front of a banknote for the first time. Finance Minister Bill Morneau said Viola Desmond will grace the front of the $10 bill when the next series goes into circulation in 2018. Desmond rejected the racial discrimination of the time when she sat in a whites-only section of a New Glasgow move theater in 1946. She was arrested and fined, and helped inspire future activists in her country. She is often compared to American civil rights hero Rosa Parks.
