Flyers: Philadelphia was 9-10-3 after a Nov. 25 loss to the New York Rangers and has won nine in a row since. … Winger Jakub Voracek was the NHL’s first star for last week, with nine points in four games. … The Flyers opened this trip with a 1-0 overtime win at Detroit on Sunday, with Brayden Schenn scoring the game-ending goal and goalie Anthony Stolarz getting the shutout in only his second career start. … Stolarz is backing up Steve Mason with Michal Neuvirth out with a knee injury. … The last time the Flyers won nine straight was in April 1995.

Avalanche: Although Semyon Varlamov — who won’t suit up Wednesday — has had previous periodic groin issues that have kept him out of the lineup for significant stretches, Avalanche coach Jared Bednar on Tuesday called the Russian goalie “day to day” and added, “Apparently, he’s feeling better today than yesterday, so I’m hoping it’s going to be shorter than what he’s had in the past.” … Centers Carl Soderberg (ill) and Joe Colborne (lower body injury) also didn’t practice Tuesday. It seems likely that one or both will be available against the Flyers. … Colorado is carrying only one extra forward, but Bednar said that as of Tuesday afternoon, there were no plans to recall a forward from San Antonio.
