FORMER SHERIFF MAKETA PLEADS NOT GUILTY
colorado springs» Former El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa pleaded not guilty Monday in a corruption case. His trial, expected to last two weeks, is scheduled for May 31.
Maketa, along with two former deputies, was in court to decide on the next steps after a judge rejected their attempts to have indictments against the trio thrown out.
Maketa, former Undersheriff Paula Presley and former sheriff ’s Cmdr. Juan “John” San Agustin were indicted in May on a range of corruption charges, including ordering the wrongful jailing of a woman who lodged a domestic abuse claim against a former sheriff ’s deputy.
