Kid Cudi, “Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ ”

The Denver Post - - LIFE & CULTURE -

To call Kid Cudi’s recent output inconsistent would be an understatement. The almost one-and-a-half hour “Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ ” is a maze of an album: sprawling, easy to get lost in and unnecessarily convoluted. In line with the rest of his music, Cudi treats the booth like a confessional. It’s not all revelatory, despite a hefty dose of solid guest features (Andre 3000, Raury and Travis Scott among others). But the production, which is legitimately gorgeous, usually makes up for its dull moments. —Dylan Owens
