jef­fer­son county» A teenager was shot in a Jef­fer­son County home Fri­day af­ter­noon, and an­other teen, the vic­tim’s friend, is in cus­tody.

The shoot­ing hap­pened at about 3 p.m. in the 11300 block of West Bowles Place, said Mark Tech­meyer, a Jef­fer­son County sher­iff ’s spokesman.

Deputies found a 14year-old boy in­side a home suf­fer­ing from a gun­shot wound. He was taken to a hos­pi­tal with life-threat­en­ing in­juries and is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion, Tech­meyer said.

A 15-year-old ran from the scene. Deputies found the teen who fled on foot about 2 miles away. He was taken into cus­tody.

“Whether this was in­ten­tional or a tragic ac­ci­dent has yet to be de­ter­mined,” Tech­meyer said.

The boys’ names were not re­leased. A weapon had not been re­cov­ered Fri­day night.

Kee­nes­burg teen dies in early-morn­ing crash

B weld county» State troop­ers are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the death of a 16-year-old Kee­nes­burg girl they say died in a traf­fic crash early Fri­day morn­ing.

Ac­cord­ing to Trooper Josh Lewis, the girl, whose name was not re­leased, was driv­ing a 2004 Ford pickup about mid­night west on Colorado 52 about 40 miles south­east of Gree­ley. Troop­ers be­lieve she veered to the north side of the road and over­cor­rected. No other ve­hi­cles were in­volved.

The girl, who was not wear­ing a seat­belt, was pro­nounced dead when first re­spon­ders ar­rived.

Mag­ni­tude-4.5 quake hits north­east­ern New Mex­ico B

cimar­ron, n.m.» The U.S. Ge­o­log­i­cal Sur­vey is re­port­ing a mag­ni­tude-4.5 earth­quake in a re­mote area just south of the New Mex­ico-Colorado state line. There were no re­ports of dam­age from the quake, which oc­curred around 12:30 p.m. Fri­day. The epi­cen­ter was about 17 miles north­west of Cimar­ron and about 90 miles north­east of Santa Fe.

An em­ployee at Ted Turner’s Ver­mejo Park Ranch re­ported a brief shut­ter­ing, as if the build­ing had been hit by a very strong gust of wind.

Worker who died in in­dus­trial ac­ci­dent is ID’d

B mof­fat county» Au­thor­i­ties have iden­ti­fied the 58-year-old worker who died Thurs­day af­ter he was struck in the head by a heavy, metal ob­ject in an in­dus­trial ac­ci­dent at a land­fill near Craig. Dar­rell Snow, a Mof­fat County Road and Bridge em­ployee, was com­plet­ing snow re­moval and trans­porta­tion op­er­a­tions at the county land­fill when he died.

Gun­man ar­rested and booked B

fowler» Pue­blo po­lice have ar­rested a 21-year-old man sus­pected of shoot­ing a bail bonds­man Thurs­day morn­ing.

SWAT of­fi­cers took Adrian Car­rera into cus­tody at a mo­tel in Fowler. He was booked into the Pue­blo County jail on sus­pi­cion of at­tempted first-de­gree mur­der and out­stand­ing war­rants.

Po­lice say Car­rera tried to flee when of­fi­cers moved in to ar­rest him late Thurs­day, climb­ing out of a bath­room win­dow and tak­ing off on foot be­fore he was tracked down in a field. Au­thor­i­ties say he had a loaded hand­gun.

In the mo­tel room, Pue­blo po­lice say they also found more weapons and am­mu­ni­tion.
