SUMMIT COUNTY DEPUTY SHOOTS ATTACKER

The Denver Post - - NEWS - By Kirk Mitchell

A man who charged several law enforcement officers after allegedly stealing a pickup late Christmas night was shot in the hand, authorities say.

He was taken to the St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, Summit County Undersheriff Joel Cochran said.

The identities of the attacker and the deputy who fired several shots have not been released.

The incident happened late Sunday after a black Toyota SUV was stolen outside a 7-Eleven, where someone had left it idling, Cochran said. Deputies spotted the SUV in Frisco.

The man held a knife up to himself in a threatening way and refused to obey orders by the officers, he said.
