Suspect in Pueblo carjacking captured 200 miles away in New Mexico
LAS VEGAS, N.M.» A Pueblo County carjacking suspect reportedly made it more than 200 miles Wednesday before being taken into custody.
A woman told Pueblo County deputies she was sitting in the passenger seat of a 2010 Toyota RAV4 at a rest area off of Interstate 25 near mile marker 112 around 5:30 a.m., when the suspect walked up to her with a gun.
She heard at least one gunshot and saw the suspect break the driver’s side window and get into the car, according to a Pueblo County Sheriff ’s Office new release. She got out of the car and ran toward the building, and the suspect drove south on I-25.
While this was happening, the male driver of the car was inside the rest-stop building. No one was injured.
The stolen car was recovered in New Mexico, but the identity of the person taken into custody has not been released.
