AURORA MAN ARRESTED IN CARJACKING
A 22-year-old Aurora man suspected in an armed carjacking early Wednesday at an Interstate 25 rest stop in Pueblo County has been arrested in New Mexico, authorities say.
The carjacking happened about 5:30 a.m. at the Pinon Rest Area north of Pueblo where a woman told sheriff ’s deputies she was sitting in the passenger seat of a 2010 Toyota Rav4 while the man driving her was inside the rest area’s building. The suspect, Juan Carlos Villalobos Macias, then approached her while brandishing a gun, at which point she heard a gunshot.
“She said the suspect broke the driver’s side window and got in the vehicle, at which point she got out of the vehicle and ran toward the building,” the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday in a news release. “The suspect drove off southbound on Interstate 25. No one was injured.”
The vehicle was found in Las Vegas, N.M., a few hours later and Macias was taken into custody.
Macias remains held in New Mexico.
