Air Force’s first-ever bid to reach the Final Four fell short in a 3-2 loss Saturday to Harvard in the East Regional championship in Providence, R.I.

The Falcons battled back from a 3-0 deficit with two goals in a 15-second span during the second period, but Air Force was unable to get the tying goal.

Harvard (28-5-2), a No. 1 seed and ranked second overall behind Denver, looked like it would cruise to an easy win.

Viktor Dombrovskiy’s goal at 9:54 of the first period made it 1-0.

Rayn Donato made it 2-0 at 7:47 of the second period and Tyler Moy scored a power-play goal at 9:50 for a three-goal lead.

But the Falcons (27-10-5) responded. Brady Tomlak scored just 1:33 later and Jordan Himley added a power-play goal at 11:38 to make it 3-2.

Harvard will play Minnesota Duluth in one of the national semifinal games, to be held April 6.
