fort collins» A vandal struck the Islamic Center of Fort Collins early Sunday, throwing rocks through windows and tossing a Bible into the building’s prayer room.

The incident, which forced the cancellation Sunday of religious classes for children, drew quick condemnation from antihate groups, Fort Collins Police Chief John Hutton and U.S. Rep. Jared Polis.

Hutton called the vandalism “unacceptable,” and he urged anyone with information on the crime to come forward. Polis said “it’s time for us to stand in unity. These acts must end.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Colorado and federal law enforcement to investigate the vandalism as a possible hate crime.
