AURORA POLICE SEARCH FOR SUSPECT
Aurora police are searching for a 20-year-old man who is wanted in connection with a suspicious death Sunday at a motel.
The Aurora Police Department seek Arturo Garcia, who is wanted on a first-degree murder warrant, according to the police department’s news blog.
A woman’s body was found at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Knights Inn Motel on the 1400 block of East Sixth Avenue. Police described the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death as suspicious but have not released a cause of death. The victim’s name will be released by the Arapahoe County coroner’s office after her family has been notified.
Bear killed after breaking into house.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers euthanized a 375 pound bear Tuesday after it was caught inside a home near Colorado Springs.
The bear spent five hours inside a house where he was recorded opening a refrigerator in the kitchen, roaming a hallway, checking out bedrooms and exploring a family room.
On its southeast region Twitter account, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said officers tracked the bear and euthanized it because it had become a public threat.
Rescuers ask hikers to prepare.
The Gazette reports first responders have been called to the Manitou Incline five times over the Fourth of July weekend.
Manitou Springs Fire Department spokesman the Rev. David Hunting pleads with hikers to prepare for the “strenuous” trek. A rescue on the Incline can take three to eight hours, depending on the injury and location, tying up fire department and El Paso County Search and Rescue resources.
Longmont police investigate eighth arson case.
Longmont police believe a Sunday car fire at an apartment complex parking lot is connected to last week’s arson spree.
Police reports show the fire is in the same part of the city where six other vehicles and a trash bin were set on fire June 26.
Cmdr. Joel Post said investigators have determined at least three vehicles were unlocked, and the fires started in the passenger compartments and a truck’s bed. The other vehicles were too burned to determine where the fires started.
Man sentenced for gang killing.
A Colorado man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for his role in the death of a woman whose body was found in Wyoming.
KMGH-TV reports 25year-old Michael Vassil was sentenced Monday for second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the September 2015 death of 34-year-old Tera Lewandowski of Pierce.
Fireworks cause house fire.
An Aurora man shooting fireworks mortars over the weekend caused his house to burn, leading fire officials to warn people of the risks of shooting them.
The homeowner wasn’t cited for using illegal fireworks, but fire investigators confiscated about $300 worth of mortars.
