CAR BAN STUDIED AT GARDEN OF THE GODS

The Denver Post - - NEWS -

An independent firm hired by the Garden of the Gods Foundation will start this month analyzing transportation through the park. The study will culminate with management recommendations to the city, says Karen Palus, director of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.

“The park simply cannot accommodate the number of vehicles going in, and there really isn’t a reasonable way to expand parking, at least not significantly,” says Hank Scarangella, the Friends of Garden of the Gods president who on Sundays posts at the park’s Visitor and Nature Center.

No one wants to sound as if they have a solution before the study wraps up. But ideas have been shared.

“Certainly banning vehicles in the Garden at least for a part of the year is a suggestion that’s been made,” Scarangella says.

“That’s been discussed. I don’t mean to overstate that like it’s a popular suggestion. It’s just been one of many that’s been thrown out (there).”
