OIL­ERS SIGN CAP­TAIN McDAVID TO 8-YEAR, $100 MIL­LION DEAL

EDMONTON, ALBERTA» The Oil­ers signed star cap­tain Con­nor McDavid to an eightyear, $100 mil­lion deal.

McDavid led the NHL in scor­ing with 100 points last sea­son, en route to win­ning the Hart Tro­phy as league MVP.

Drafted first over­all by the Oil­ers in 2015, the 20-year-old McDavid has been the cat­a­lyst of Edmonton’s trans­for­ma­tion from league bot­tom dweller to con­tender.

With McDavid lead­ing the way, the Oil­ers reached the play­offs for the first time in a decade last sea­son, elim­i­nat­ing San Jose be­fore fall­ing in seven games to Ana­heim in the sec­ond round.

The deal has an av­er­age an­nual value of $12.5 mil­lion.

Hy­man, Maple Leafs agree to 4-year ex­ten­sion. TORONTO»

Zach Hy­man signed a $10 mil­lion, four-year con­tract ex­ten­sion with the Maple Leafs.

The 25-year-old for­ward was set to be­come an un­re­stricted free agent af­ter the up­com­ing sea­son.

The for­mer Univer­sity of Michi­gan player had 10 goals and 18 as­sists in 82 reg­u­lar-sea­son games last sea­son and added a goal and three as­sists in six play­off games.

Cana­di­ens sign Galchenyuk.

MON­TREAL» Alex Galchenyuk and the Cana­di­ens avoided ar­bi­tra­tion by agree­ing to a three-year, $14.7 mil­lion con­tract.

The 23-year-old Galchenyuk was a re­stricted free agent.

Drafted third over­all by Mon­treal in 2012, the Amer­i­can cen­ter had 17 goals and 27 as­sists in 61 games last sea­son and added three as­sists in six play­off games. He has 89 goals and 115 as­sists in 336 ca­reer NHL games.
