Thanks to the Walton family for helping protect Colorado River

The Denver Post - - OPINION - Re: Andrea J. Grant,

“Walton Family Foundation pledges $20 million to Colorado River conservation,” June 26 news story (online only).

There is nothing more important and precious to Colorado and the West than our Colorado River. Without it nothing much can be sustained — life, economics, communities, wildlife, etc.

A big shout-out to the Walton Family Foundation for stepping up with millions to help protect this vital resource. This is critical as our federal government shirks its responsibility to help protect the major river flowing through the West.

It’s imperative we fully fund and implement the Colorado Water Plan to protect the Colorado River for future generations. This plan sets out an equitable system for each region to consider its impacts on our water supply and work together so the whole state can thrive. Pressures from population growth and climate change mean there will be less water in the future. Let’s rise to our challenge and plan so future generations can grow and enjoy our beautiful state. Send letters of 150 words or fewer to openforum@denver or 101 W.
