Looking ahead

The Denver Post - - SPORTS -

Rockies RHP Jeff Hoffman (5-1, 4.15 ERA) at Mets LHP Steven Matz (2-2, 3.05), 11:10 a.m. Sunday, AT&T Sportsnet; 850 AM

The Rockies don’t have an ace right now. Indeed, they might not have a legitimate ace this season, but Hoffman has given his team a lift, especially on the road where he’s 3-0 in four starts with a 1.67 ERA. Colorado needs innings from its starters, and lately, Hoffman has provided them, pitching seven innings in each of his last two outings. The rookie has never faced the Mets. Matz, who missed time early this season because of elbow issues, had been pitching effectively until his last start, when he lasted only 4L innings in a 6-0 loss at St. Louis. The Cardinals lit up Matz for five runs on seven hits. The Rockies beat Matz last summer at Citi Field, banging him for 10 hits over six innings.
