It’s National Ice Cream Day — celebrate with Fruity Pebbles
“Every time I take a bite of it, it’s like it’s 1987 again, and it’s awesome,” said Ice Cream Riot owner Jim Mcnutt of his favorite flavor, Fruity Pebbles.
Do you, too, yearn for the Reagan years? Do you love national food holidays? Hate ‘em? Doesn’t matter — you should still get yourself to Ice Cream Riot today (July 16 is National Ice Cream Day!) for a scoop of Fruity Pebbles, or one of the other cerealinspired flavors that the Colfax creamery is known for.
Riot’s Fruity Pebbles flavor doesn’t actually have the cereal crunching up the ice cream; rather, it’s blended into the base to taste like the cereal milk left at the bottom of the bowl. You know, the best part.
It’s fruity and rainbow-y and nostalgic-y and, come on, does it get any better than fruity, rainbow-y and nostalgic-y?
Yes, you’re an adult and could theoretically eat Fruity Pebbles for every single meal if you so pleased, but I’m betting that you don’t, and that this ice cream is screaming out to 7-year-old you. And, if you’re really nice, the fine folks at Ice Cream Riot may even scoop actual Fruity Pebbles on top of your ‘cream.
“I’m an ‘80s kid, the last generation of eating sugary cereal and your parents didn’t care,” Mcnutt said. “I don’t eat as much cereal as I used to, but to live nostalgically through my ice cream, I do it all the time. It makes me so happy.”
