Ger­man mid­fielder Aigner signs deal

The Rapids have signed 1860 Mu­nich mid­fielder Ste­fan Aigner to a 3½-year deal, the team an­nounced Wed­nes­day.

Aigner, 29, will oc­cupy an in­ter­na­tional spot for the Rapids and of­fi­cially be added to the ros­ter af­ter the club re­ceives a re­ceipt of his In­ter­na­tional Trans­fer Cer­tifi­cate and P-1 Visa.

The con­tract’s mon­e­tary de­tails have not been dis­closed.

“We’re ex­cited to add a player of Ste­fan’s cal­iber to our ros­ter for the next 3½ half years,” Rapids in­terim gen­eral man­ager Padraig Smith said in a news re­lease. “As an or­ga­ni­za­tion, we are com­mit­ted to field­ing a for­ward-think­ing side and bring­ing in Ste­fan — a tech­ni­cal and ver­sa­tile player who can ex­cel in mul­ti­ple at­tack­ing roles — will help us achieve that vi­sion.”

Aigner spent last sea­son with his home­town club, 1860 of Bun­desliga’s 2nd divi­sion, and recorded four goals and three as­sists (24 ap­pear­ances).

The Ger­man winger played with Ein­tra­cht Frank­furt of Bun­desliga’s top divi­sion from 2012-16. In 136 matches with the club, he scored 28 goals and logged 27 as­sists. Aigner ap­peared in seven Europa League games dur­ing the 2013-14 sea­son.
