DANCE: Vail is more than its director

The Denver Post - - FEATURES - — John Wenzel

SATURDAY-AUG. 9. The Vail Dance Festival, which celebrates its 29th outing this year, is so proud of artistic director Damien Woetzel that it includes the name of this former principal dancer at New York City Ballet in its logo. As well it should: Woetzel is iconic in the performing arts world, having also just been named president of the Julliard School (starting in 2018). But the event he leads in Vail is so much more than that, drawing from an international pool of talent that performs classics from Martha Graham, Jerome Robbins, George Balanchine, new works from L.A. Dance Project and Denver’s Wonder-bound, and plenty in between. Tickets for the shows, which run July 29-Aug. 9 at various venues in Vail, are available via vaildance.org.
